New York CLE Requirements
New York Newly Admitted CLE Rules
Total CLE Requirements: 16 transitional credits must be completed in each of your first two years of admission. Of the 16 required credits, 3 must be in Ethics, 6 must be in Skills, and 7 must be in Professional Practice or Practice Management. Newly admitted attorneys shall fulfill their continuing legal education requirement by taking accredited transitional continuing legal education courses or programs in traditional live classroom settings or through attendance of fully interactive video conferences if the videoconference technology has been separately approved by the CLE Board for use by newly admitted attorneys.
CLE Deadline: Measured from the date of your admission.
Reporting: New York is a self-reporting jurisdiction.
Reporting Information: Each newly admitted attorney subject to New York’s transitional continuing legal education requirements is required to certify along with the submission of his or her biennial attorney registration statement that the attorney has satisfactorily completed 32 credit hours of transitional continuing legal education (16 credit hours in the first year of admission to the Bar, 16 credit hours in the second year of admission to the Bar) and that the attorney has retained the Certificates of Attendance or other documentation required by the CLE Board for the accredited courses or programs.

New York Veteran CLE Rules
Total CLE Requirements: Each attorney shall complete a minimum of 24 credit hours of accredited continuing legal education each biennial (two-year) reporting cycle, at least four (4) credit hours of which shall be in ethics and professionalism. Ethics and professionalism, skills, law practice management and areas of professional practice are defined in 1500.2. The ethics and professionalism components may be intertwined with other courses.
CLE Deadline: Every two years on your birthday.
Reporting: New York is a self-reporting jurisdiction.
Reporting Information: As a self reporting jurisdiction, New York requires that on your biennial attorney registration form you verify that you have completed your continuing education requirement. You are required to retain all certificates from any continuing education classes you have for at least the past 4 years. If you complete any Marino Legal course (online or live lecture), your certificates will be saved in your account permanently so you can always access them at your convenience.
