MBE Question of the Day

A woman owed a friend debt of $400, and the friend began an action on that debt. The woman’s father requested the friend to
forbear and not to sue the woman, and promised to pay her debt. If the friend did forbear, would the friend succeed in an action against the father for $400?
(A) No, because the friend’s claim against the woman was only for $400.
(B) No, because the father at most had only a moral obligation to pay the woman’s debt.
(C) Yes, because the father’s promise was supported by a bargained for exchange.
(D) Yes, because the friend had detrimentally relied on the father’s promise.
